Hello and welcome to our new blog! We are happy you're here. If you don't know who we are - our names are Riley and Darian, the founders of Millennials for Climate Action. Over the past few years it has become more and more apparent that our planet is suffering. Our global atmospheric and oceanic temperatures are rising. This is causing our ice sheets to melt, sea levels to rise, and many species to face extinction. Farmers are struggling to produce crops that we heavily rely on. Natural disasters are becoming much more frequent and severe. Due to changing climate and irresponsible land management many of our forests are burning at unprecedented rates. This year The Amazon rainforest had the most severe forest fires in our history. People are losing their homes, businesses and livelihoods in California. Australia is so dry this year that clouds of smoke and soot are producing lightening without rain or thunder, worsening the already extensive fires burning across the continent. Our oceans are filling with plastic that leeches chemicals causing reproductive harm to humans and other species.
We have been seeing these stories on the news, learning about these issues in school, reading scientific reports, and wondering what WE can do to prevent further catastrophic damage to our ecosystem. We all have families, children, nieces or nephews that need a healthy planet to live on. Humans are only one of MILLIONS of species that inhabit this planet. We want to ensure that we are doing all that we can do to promise that there is a habitable future on this planet for ourselves and our fellow beings.
It sometimes feels as if there is nothing one person can do to make a difference with these vast global issues. Recently we have been seeing individuals like Greta Thunberg and other activists, who despite obstacles, have inspired change and reform across the globe. With unwavering commitment and determination, Greta has made an enormous impact in the discussion of climate change. She has inspired hundreds of thousands of people to stand up for what is right, to tell our leaders that the time to sit back and watch our planet die has come to an end, and to tell our leaders that NOW is the time to take climate action.
Our mission at Millennials for Climate Action is to inform ourselves and our peers of the detrimental effects of human consumption, waste, and energy production on our planet. We aim to inspire individuals to work toward positive change by providing access to resources and information regarding sustainable living. As well as empowering individuals and communities to plan and participate in climate action. We believe it is each of our responsibility to conserve the environment and climate to provide future generations a thriving and habitable planet. On our blog you will see posts containing information on sustainable living, zero waste products, local + global climate action events, environmental stewardship, renewable energy, and more! Thanks for being here and advocating for the future of our planet with us.
