Climate Crisis Parade | Des Moines, IA

On February 1st, 2020 we gathered in the Cowles Commons of downtown Des Moines with over 40 other Iowa based Climate Organizations to demand the media in town for the caucus cover the climate emergency. Unsurprisingly, though they were invited, very few members of local media attended. Before and after we marched we listened to speakers from Seeding Sovereignty, "an Indigenous womxn-led collective, works on behalf of our global community to shift social and environmental paradigms by dismantling colonial institutions and replacing them with Indigenous practices". The speeches given this day further opened our eyes to the disproportionate harm the climate crisis is doing to Indigenous folx.

Though we were gathered together by this crisis, it was great to march alongside so many like-minded organizations and individuals. The sense of togetherness was comforting knowing it will take mass numbers of activists and climate advocates to change the course of our future. We will not stop fighting for a livable future.
